Estimate my move to Andorra

Before you talk to us, find out where you stand. Answer five questions and you will get the residence status that fits your situation, the requirements you must meet with their amounts, the order of magnitude of your Andorran tax, and your next three steps. Nothing to fill in, nothing to receive by email.

Question 1 of 5

What will you be doing in Andorra?

This answer is what determines your residence status.

What this calculator works out

The estimate covers the three items that really weigh on a budget for moving to Andorra: the income tax you will pay once you are tax resident, corporation tax if you set up a structure, and social security contributions. It is no substitute for a tailored study.

The calculation starts from two figures only, your annual income and the nature of that income. That is deliberate. Multiplying the fields would give a false impression of precision, when the amount of tax depends above all on the boundary between earned income and savings income, and on the residence status you obtain.

Three things are left out of the calculation, because they depend on your situation and cannot be guessed: the double tax treaty applicable to your foreign-source income, the treatment of assets you already hold, and the cost of leaving your current country. Those three points are covered in the appointment, with a tax lawyer.

The income tax scale used in the calculation

Andorran personal income tax, the IRPF, applies differently depending on whether income comes from a business or from an investment. The calculator applies the two regimes separately.

Annual earned incomeEffective rate applied
Up to €24,0000 %
From €24,000 to €40,0005 %
Above €40,00010% as the marginal rate

The real mechanism is a 10% rate above €24,000, reduced by a relief equal to half the tax due and capped at €800. On income of €40,000 that gives €800 of tax, which is exactly 5% of the taxable band. Above that, the relief is frozen at €800 and the effective rate rises gradually towards 10%.

Savings income follows a simpler rule: 10% above an allowance of €3,000 a year. Interest, dividends and gains on securities fall into this category.

One figure comes up often in comparisons: Andorran corporation tax is 10% at the general rate, and the general indirect tax, which serves as VAT, is 4.5%. Those are the rates the calculator uses for the company part.

What a move costs, item by item

The budget for a move is not just tax. Four items appear in every file, and their amount depends more on your project than on the country.

  • Share capital, if you set up a company. An Andorran limited company requires €3,000 of capital, a public company €60,000. That sum is not an expense, it stays in the business.
  • The security deposit, for passive residence. It is paid to the Andorran financial authority when the application is filed and, since Llei 2/2026, it stays with the State: it does not come back to you, unless the initial authorisation is refused.
  • Housing. Deposit, first months’ rent, or a down payment if buying. It is the most variable item, and the one that drives the timetable: without an Andorran address, the residence file does not move forward.
  • Filing and support costs. Sworn translations, apostilles, medical certificate, notary and agency fees. They are worked out case by case according to the status sought.

On top of that come social security contributions. Registration with the CASS, the Andorran social security fund, is compulsory from the moment you carry on an activity in the country, and the rate is 22%. It gives access to local healthcare, which makes private insurance unnecessary in most cases.

Active or passive residence, what changes in the budget

Four residence statuses coexist in Andorra. Two of them structure most files, and their budget logic is the opposite of each other.

Active residence

It assumes real activity in the country, employed or self-employed, and effective presence of at least 183 days a year. The entry cost is low, since there is no deposit to put up, but the running cost is there: CASS contributions, tax on earned income, and corporation tax if you go through a structure.

Passive residence

It allows no gainful activity in Andorra. In exchange, it requires a deposit with the financial authority, insurance covering sickness, disability and old age, and housing at your disposal. The entry cost is higher, the running cost lower. It suits retired people and those with foreign-source income.

The calculator does not choose for you. It works out both scenarios on your own figures, which makes the comparison readable before the first appointment.

Frequently asked questions about the estimate

Does the estimate have legal force?

No. It applies the rates in force to amounts you enter, without examining your actual situation. The same income can fall under different regimes depending on its source, the treaties that apply and your tax history. Only an analysis done with a tax lawyer commits to a conclusion.

Why does the result differ from online comparison tools?

Most comparison tools apply a flat 10% to all income, which overstates the tax on middle incomes. The real scale has a €24,000 exempt band and a relief capped at €800, which leaves the effective rate at 5% on the next band.

Do I have to set up a company to move to Andorra?

No, a company is only one of the routes to active residence. An employment contract with an Andorran company also leads there. A company makes sense when you work for yourself, or when your clients are outside Andorra.

How long should I allow between the decision and the move?

Allow six to twelve months depending on the status you are seeking. Finding housing and preparing the file take up most of the time. A project that involves setting up a company lengthens that, since the foreign investment authorisation has to be obtained before registration.

Is income I receive from abroad taxed in Andorra?

Once you are Andorran tax resident, your worldwide income falls in principle under the IRPF. The double tax treaties signed by the Principality, including the French one in force since 2015, determine which of the two States taxes what. It is the first point to look at in the appointment.

Is the passive residence deposit lost?

Yes. Since Llei 2/2026, the €50,000 paid to the AFA, and the €12,000 per dependant, stay with the State and are not refundable, unless the initial authorisation is refused. It is not a bond: refunds now apply only to applications filed before 22 January 2026.
