Small country located in the heart of the Pyrenean chain between France and Spain, the Principality of Andorra stretches over a surface area of 468km2. Counting around 85 000 inhabitants, its mountainous territory is divided in 7 administrative and geographic districts, the parishes, within which several villages and cities, such as the capital Andorra la Vella, are established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Principality of Andorra<\/strong> is divided in 7 parishes<\/strong>: Andorra la Vella, Canillo, Encamp, Escaldes-Engordany, La Massana, Ordino and Sant Julia de Loria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Located in the South<\/strong> of the country, the parishes of Andorra la Vella<\/strong> and Escaldes-Engordany<\/strong> give form to the principal urban area<\/strong> of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The capital, Andorra la Vella, the most important city in the country<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Composed of 22 250 inhabitants<\/strong>, Andorra la Vella<\/strong> is the capital city<\/strong> of the Principality<\/strong> and the principal city of Andorra. It is located in the South-West<\/strong> of the country, in the valley of the Valira<\/strong>. Its altitude<\/strong> of 1 013 meters<\/strong> makes it the highest capital in Europe!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focal point<\/strong> of the country, Andorra la Vella<\/strong> gathers the majority of services<\/strong> (education<\/a>, health<\/a>) and institutions<\/strong> of the Principality of Andorra, including the Government<\/strong> of the country. The major Andorran city<\/strong> is also known for its astounding reception conditions<\/strong>, its many hotels<\/strong> and restaurants<\/strong>, as well as its unmatched shopping conditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political<\/strong> and economic<\/strong> capital of the country, it was, until 1978<\/strong>, the home to the Andorran city Escaldes-Engordany<\/strong>, which is now a parish of its own. Actually, Andorra la Vella<\/strong> is now the smallest parish<\/strong> on the Andorran territory, but not the least populated!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us precise that this parish of Andorra la Vella<\/strong> also welcomes the very lovely villages of La Margineda<\/strong> and Santa Coloma<\/strong>, with its sumptuous church<\/strong>, gem of the Andorran art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Escaldes-Engordany<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Stretching over 47 km\u00b2, the parish of Escaldes-Engordany<\/strong> contains another important city of the Principality of Andorra<\/strong>, Escaldes-Engordany<\/strong>, formed originally by the villages of Escaldes<\/strong> and Engordany<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parish rises up to 1 050 meters<\/strong> in height and gathers around 17 000 inhabitants<\/strong> called the \u201cEscaldencs\u201d. The Andorran villages<\/strong> of Vilars d\u2019Engordany, Engolasters and El Fener are built on its territory, also known because it is the home to the splendid wild valley of Madriu<\/a>, with its preserved fauna and flora, and Roman churches<\/strong> of Sant Roma dels Vilars and Sant Miquel d\u2019Engolasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The thermo-recreational center Caldea<\/a>, unic thermal facility in Andorra gathering health and entertainment devices<\/strong>, also constitutes a major attraction<\/strong> of Escaldes-Engordany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of an average altitude<\/strong> of 1 530 meters<\/strong> for a surface area of 121 km\u00b2<\/strong>, the parish of Canillo<\/strong> stretches in the North<\/strong> of the Principality of Andorra<\/strong>. Its inhabitants are called the \u201cCanillencs\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
